Causes of blocked Drains
The most common cause of blocked drains is tree roots growing into the inside of pipes and creating a restriction which will develop into a partial or total blockage as hair, toilet paper, et cetera snag on the roots.

Another common cause of blocked drains is the use of the toilet to dispose of sanitary napkins, nappies and tampons. The use of the sink drain to dispose of household rubbish also causes problems.

Roots will get in through failed joins and cracked and broken pipes

Health and safety
Drain blockages can be a health and safety issue, with water that has been backed up breeding harmful bacteria. Accordingly, blockages should be dealt with immediately. We give a priority to blocked sewer drains, doing most jobs that are called in in the morning, on the same day.

We offer a permanent solution to your drainage problems.
We can locate and clear blockages, usually with a minimum of fuss. Sometimes, however, depending on the nature and severity of the blockage, and the condition of the drains, is it is necessary to dig up and replace sections of the pipe.

Electric Eel or Jet Rodder – Horses for Courses
An electric eel consists of lengths of coiled steel cable with a cutter attached to the end. The cable is attached to a crank that is turned clockwise by an electric motor with a clutch. The spinning cutter will break up and clear the blockage. Each of our vehicles is stocked with an electric eel which can cut through most blockages. We prefer to start most jobs with an eel because they cost less. Their capital cost is a lot lower than a jet rodder, as is their maintenance cost. This of course means lower costs for the customer.
Jet rodders use a high pressure stream of water to cut through blockages and clear away the debris. They are particularly useful for cleaning away any accumulated grease or grunge that might be causing the blocked drains.

Some drains, especially stormwater drains or large drains may need a jet-rodder. An eel would simply flail about in pipes whose diameter is greater than 100 mm.
If you would prefer that we used a jet rodder on your job from the outset, please advise the office when you call up about your job.

Drain Camera Inspection System
A CCTV (closed circuit television) drain camera enables us to determine the severity of blockages and to investigate the cause of blocked drains. It will also help locate the blockage, providing vision of any damage to the pipe and the location and depth of the blockage.
Using a camera, we can inspect your drainage system and give you a report on its condition. This could be particularly valuable to you when buying a new home. Also, it would help us identify any structural issues, so that we could recommend appropriate action to avoid unexpected emergency blockages.

We will clear all the way to the boundary.
Time permitting; we will clear all the way to the boundary. We will not stop when we have cleared the immediate blockage, as there are likely to be further partial blockages in the pipe system. When you pay for a drain clean you pay for one hour with one plumber or for 40 minutes for two men.

Tips:
When a toilet line is blocked, you usually have warning signs such as the toilet gurgling when it is flushed and/or the water level lowering after flushing.

If the water level rises up the bowl after flushing, then call a plumber immediately to clear the blockage before the toilet overflows.
