Drainage is the removal of surface and sub-surface water or sewage from an area.
In the early days of Canberra most drainage was done with terracotta or concrete pipes. Pipes made from these materials are today highly susceptible to root penetration. The combination of the fact that the material has become more brittle over time, together with ground movement and the fact that pipes were not always well laid, has led to cracks and breakages, and failed joins, thus increasing their susceptibility to root penetration.
Often the solution is to dig up and replace sections of terracotta or concrete pipe with modern, and relatively trouble-free PVC (plastic) pipe.
It should be noted that plan approval is not required when a simple replacement is being done. However, when new pipe is being laid, or the pipeline is being re-routed, then plans have to be submitted to the authorities for approval and the work must also pass an inspection. If you wish, we will take care of planning submissions and approvals.
We clear, repair and replace blocked and broken:
Redirection of Drainage
We will also re-direct your drainage lines if it would be cost-effective and appropriate in the circumstances (for example, to go around a tree whose roots are causing problems).
Drainage for Home Renovations and Extensions
Not only do we repair and replace old drainage lines, we install new drainage for home renovations and extensions, etcetera.
